Stories Unfold at the Main Branch Library!
Paper Monuments is proud to announce another step in our collaboration with the New Orleans Public Library, Stories Unfold!
Learn about stories including PMEV#023 Farewell to the Honorable Marcus Garvey, PMPLC #012 The Dew Drop Inn, PMPPL#007 Dorothy Mae Taylor and more. Stories Unfold, like the Paper Monuments poster series it presents, is designed to engage a broader audience than traditional historical markers through the combination of written (narrative) and illustrated (visual) storytelling. Stories Unfold encourages passers-by to consider the histories they hold within themselves, and to advertise the distribution of Paper Trail newspapers, posters and Public Proposal forms which invite the public to propose new monuments to the people, places, movements and events whose collective stories make New Orleans.
Stories Unfold in the lobby of the New Orleans Public Library's Main Branch, 212 Loyola Avenue in the CBD, adjacent to the entry and across from the circulation desk on the first floor. This temporary installation was created with the help of our friends Hali Dardar and Jon Voss at HistoryPin and of the American Library Association, and generously hosted at the Main Branch by first floor manager and adult programs director April Martin.
We'll be dropping new Stories Unfold installations at branch libraries throughout the city in the coming months, and holding other events at Main and other branches, which we're excited to announce soon. Stay tuned!
